There was a lot of talk over the summer about the future of Ndombele, who reportedly told the club that he wished to leave north London, and this was also claimed to be mainly down to the fact Ryan Mason benched him in the Carabao Cup final for Harry Winks.
Will Tottenham finish in the top six this season?
However, once the transfer window slammed shut and he was not being handed any minutes by Nuno Espirito Santo, Ndombele told the club that he was willing to work hard for a spot in the team, but his future is still unclear, with a report from Calcio Mercato suggesting that former manager Jose Mourinho is looking to bring him to Roma – claiming that the Portuguese boss is searching for a midfielder with ‘great athleticism’.
A lot of Spurs can’t believe that Ndombele is being linked with a move away to Roma on Twitter.
What have these Tottenham fans been saying?
“Alexa, define ridiculous”
“There has to be a joke there’
“Great athleticism lol next joke please”
“You have to laugh”
“This has to be a joke… “great athleticism” is literally the opposite of Ndombele. Perhaps they meant Sissoko and it’s a mistranslation? Great athlete, terrible footballer.”
“This has got to be banter”
Ndombele has been started a lot more frequently by Nuno in recent weeks, although that hasn’t resulted in better results, as Spurs are yet to win a game in 90 minutes that the French midfielder has started in this campaign.
The midfielder was brought in from Lyon in 2019 and is the club’s most expensive ever signing, but his record would say that he’s nowhere near that level. And judging by the reaction to links suggesting that Mourinho wants him, many fans really can’t believe it given that the Portuguese boss worked with him not long ago.
