A collection of Tottenham Hotspur fans have voiced their concerns after their club were said to be interested in West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
According to a report from Football Insider, the north London club sent a senior Spurs scout to watch Johnstone last week as the Baggies played Preston North End.
The article went on to claim that Spurs are forming a dossier on the goalkeeper, with the possibility of a future transfer being weighed up.
Would Sam Johnstone be a good signing for Spurs?
Yes
No
TranSPURS shared the information with their many Twitter followers and it resulted in a number of Tottenham supporters expressing their feelings on the news.
Here’s what these Tottenham Hotspur fans had to say…
“Onana is literally free as well, this is a wage bill cutting signing and puts us futher towards mid table mediocrity rather than showing the slightest bit of ambition to even get back towards where we were 3 years ago let alone beyond that.”
“Every sign is just looking like cutting the wage bill and settling for mid table, johnstone is a good keeper but letting lloris go to save wages it’s another sign.”
Judging from these comments, it doesn’t neccesarly look as if all the fans are opposed to Johnstone for his pure footballing abilty, but rather because it could mean the club may lose captain Hugo Lloris and fail to replace him with a similar calibre of player.
The French ‘keeper is coming to the final stages of his contract, which ends next summer, and has yet to be offered a new deal.
If he was to leave, the club could end up with Johnstone and current backup ‘keeper Pierluigi Gollini as their two options – an idea that evidently concerns these Spurs fans.
