Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to image of Dilan Markanday

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to an image that has emerged of Dilan Markanday during a recent game for the U23 side.

The youngsters were involved in the first round of matches in the Papa John’s Trophy and they came out the right side of a thrilling 4-3 game against Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium, as two goals from Harvey White and further efforts by Yago Santiago and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster gave them all three points.

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

However, it wasn’t any of the goalscorers that were the talking points for the fans online, as that honour fell to 20-year-old Markanday, who has already got off to a great start this season for the academy side, scoring four goals in their first three games of the Premier League 2 season.

Markanday was credited with setting up Spurs’ third goal of the night following some ‘excellent footwork‘ in setting up White’s second.

When @Lilywhite_Spurs shared a photo of him in action, there were plenty of fans that wanted to spark a conversation about what the future held for him, with many eager to praise him for what he has done so far and what he could do for the club going forward:

“As a half Indian man I’m buzzing for this boy to give hope to a huge segment of society that has never thought it belongs in the football world. There MUST be cracking British Asian players out there. Go on Dilan @DilanMarkanday Kiddha!”

“I was there last night, he was awesome. Raw talent, pace, skill, touch and pocket power. We are lucky to have him”
“Remember the name Dilan Markanday #COYS #THFC”
“Dembele-ish”
“I’ve got a feeling he’s gonna break through this season.”
“I’ve seen a lot of talk about him so watched the highlights of the last couple u23 game. He looks quality”

With a record of 27 goals in 99 appearances coming through the ranks at the club, he certainly knows where the goal is, and it will be interesting to see if he’s given his chance to show his skills in the first team this season, or perhaps in a few cup or Europa Conference League games.
