A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the performance from Matt Doherty in the first half of their Europa Conference League game on Thursday night.

The Lilywhites faced Slovenian side NS Mura at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and made a quick start to the game with two goals in the opening eight minutes.

Goals from Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso kick-started Tottenham back into action after a tricky few weeks, including a 2-2 draw away to Rennes in their last European outing.

However, not all fans were pleased with the opening 45 minutes, with some taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts at the former Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back, Matt Doherty.

The Irishman was making just his fifth appearance of the 2021/22 campaign, with the 29-year-old having played just seven minutes of Premier League football this season (via Transfermarkt).

What did these fans have to say?

“Doherty still being exposed”

“Playing a pub team and Doherty still looks out of his depth”
“Doherty getting caught outta position again…”
“Doherty still looking bang average though”
“Doherty is still the worst player to ever play for us”
“What does Doherty offer?”

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side went into the game with a great deal of pressure on their shoulders following their previous three Premier League games which have all ended up in defeats with nine goals conceded.

Although the Spurs defence proved solid on the whole in the first half, it appears these fans were left far from impressed by Doherty’s display.

  • Tony Borg says:

He has absolutely no idea about crossing a ball, he’s scared to lose the ball, he’d rather pass it sideways or backwards and kills momentum. Try crossing a ball now and again. He should have gone before Aurier. In fact I think Aurier is probably better than Emerson too, our scouting system need an overhaul.
