Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss all things relating to the north London club.

Speaking after their derby defeat against Arsenal, Gold discussed one of the players who did not feature in the game at the Emirates Stadium in Cristian Romero.

Have you been impressed by Romero so far?

The Argentine has only made two appearances in the Premier League since arriving in the summer from Atalanta on an initial loan with the option to buy.

Romero missed some time after being held in quarantine following his time with the Argentine side in their last round of World Cup qualifiers.

Having started in the defeat against Chelsea on the weekend prior to the defeat at the Emirates Stadium, Gold discussed a potential reason behind why he did not feature against Mikel Arteta’s side.

“There’s also some indications that Cristian Romero may be still having some issues with his knee. [Pierluigi] Gollini touched on it in an interview after the Wolves game.

“I think he’s still having some little problems with it. So maybe the idea was that – we’ll ask him this in his press conference – but maybe the idea was that Romero making three starts in a row, having come back from that time in Croatia, which I know a lot of people say ‘well, he was resting’, but still if he has that knee issue still, to make three starts in a row, maybe that was considered to be a thing.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero at Spurs…

As is the case for Tottenham in general, it has been a tricky start to the campaign for Romero. The Argentine’s integration into the side seems to have been hindered by both his injury and the quarantine debacle.

We were surprised to see the 23-year-old start Sunday’s game on the bench, as despite the scoreline, he and Eric Dier played reasonably well against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Spurs face NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and then Aston Villa on Sunday, so we are interested to see which of those, if either, Romero competes in.
