On the latest edition of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Alasdair Gold has been speaking about Cameron Carter-Vickers’ late Tottenham Hotspur exit to Celtic.

Carter-Vickers made a late departure to the Scottish Premiership side on Tuesday night in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

The deal for the centre-back is on a season-long loan basis with the option for the Parkhead side to make permanent at the end of it.

However, Carter-Vickers was playing into the final year of his contract at Tottenham, which is why the Lilywhites were said to be looking for a permanent deal for the American.

Discussing the defender’s situation back at Spurs, Gold had the following to say on the measure that has been taken by Tottenham to make sure they will not lose Carter-Vickers for free at the end of the campaign.

“What has turned out is that every time he’s gone on a loan, Spurs have agreed with him to extend his contract. Not an option, but an actual extension of his contract, which they haven’t then made public.

“So what’s happened, as well as extending the contract by either a year or two years, the option the club then have to extend it by a further year at the end of that also knocks on, because it wasn’t ever triggered.

“So I’m told, I think he may even have two years when he returns from Celtic on his contract.”

TIF Thoughts on Carter-Vickers’ time at Spurs…

We think this is a smart move from Spurs to make sure they do not lose out financially on a player they were hoping to reportedly recoup £5m for this summer.

It has been a difficult time for Carter-Vickers in trying to establish himself at Spurs having now been sent out on loan seven times (via Transfermarkt).

We think both Spurs and the defender will be hoping this move works out up in Scotland as it could finally bring his loan merry-go-round to an end as he looks to make a club his permanent home.
