Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has offered an update on the contractual situation of star striker Harry Kane.

It seemed on many occasions this summer that the England captain was set to leave north London in favour of a move to Manchester City.

However, with a contract keeping him at Spurs until 2024, Daniel Levy had the option to refuse any sale – which he willfully took – and so Kane will continue at Tottenham for the immediate future.

If ever there was an example of how quickly people can move on within football, Gold may have just found the perfect one. While speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, he explained that he expects the 28-year-old’s camp to start talks on a new contract with the club at some point soon.

Gold said: “I spoke to a few people in his camp just after he’d said he was staying, and it was very much like, ‘it’s early days about a contract, let’s start the season, let’s see where we go’.

“I’d be surprised if it’s not spoken about.”

TIF Thoughts on Harry Kane and Spurs…

Perhaps Tottenham’s fine start to the season has influenced Kane’s seemingly sudden change of heart. After all, his club sit top of the table and are yet to concede a league goal.

In fact, with three 1-0 Premier League wins in a row, one of the few arguments that could be aimed at manager Nuno Espirito Santo is that the number of goals scored has been a little limited – although this is, of course, where Kane’s qualities could elevate the squad.

Will Tottenham Hotspur make top four this season?

The England international has turned out for Spurs this season, but with only one start and one appearance off the bench, he is yet to contribute a league goal.

Spurs take on Crystal Palace this weekend, and perhaps this will afford Kane the chance to enter the race for this season’s Premier League Golden Boot.
