Former Tottenham Hotspur man Graham Roberts insists that Harry Winks needs to stop living off past performances for the club.

The midfielder fell out of favour under the management of Jose Mourinho last season, as he made just 15 Premier League appearances, of which nine were starts.

Winks has subsequently lost his place in the England squad, despite winning 10 caps in total, scoring once.

This season, the 25-year-old has played just a single minute of Premier League football although he has played twice in the Europa Conference League, in each leg of the play-off against Pacos de Ferreira.

£90,000-a-week man Winks did not play brilliantly during the first game, as Spurs lost 1-0 in Portugal, before rallying to win 3-0 at home and progress to the group stages.

The midfielder, of course, has played against some of the biggest clubs in the world in the Champions League, featuring in midfield against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus.

But Roberts believes he cannot keep living off those performances, much like Jack Wilshere did at Arsenal, following a masterclass against Barcelona when he was emerging.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, Roberts was asked if he saw similarities between Wilshere and Winks, and replied: “100%. They think, ‘oh yeah, I’ve done it there’ but you haven’t done it since and that’s the problem you’ve got. They live on what they used to do. It’s not about that, it’s about living what you do today.”
