A whole host of Tottenham Hotspur fans are furious on Twitter after Alasdair Gold published an article which contained comments by defender Matt Doherty.

Thursday evening’s draw against Rennes saw Doherty start his third consecutive game in the Europa Conference League after he faced Pacos Ferreira in the two qualifying games. He is still though yet to be trusted with a start in the Premier League under his former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Will Tottenham finish in the top six this season?

Yes

No

No

Doherty was sold to Tottenham by Nuno during his last season as manager at Molineux and despite spending three seasons with the Republic of Ireland international, Nuno does not appear to be favouring Doherty given that he signed Emerson Royal on deadline day. After his third start of the season, Doherty spoke about Nuno, how he’s changed and why he will bring success to Tottenham.

A load of Spurs fans have reacted angrily on Twitter when Gold relayed Doherty’s comments:

What have these Tottenham fans had to say?

“Doherty has changed as well, dreadful”

@ajaay10

“Bruh we don’t rate either of you”

@ThfcCoco

“This coming from one of the worst players to play for us in recent memory brings very little comfort.”

@h_rory

“No success is coming any time soon. Our 2nd ST is a 17 YR old. says enough really”

@j0sgsgsh2728

“Shame you won’t be there to see it”

@mayneman007

“Did he explain his lack of footballing ability?”

@SebMartin20

The right-back arrived with a reputation for being an attacking full-back with his two previous seasons in the Premier League seeing him return an impressive eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League, however he has failed to bring that form to north London with him.

How many points did Tottenham gain in the following seasons? First up: 2020/21

It is not just new signing Emerson that he has to now compete with, but also Japhet Tanganga who had been the right-back of choice by Nuno in the league, although he may have to win back the manager’s trust following his sending off against Crystal Palace.
