Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has claimed that the presence of Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham Hotspur is ‘hanging over the team’ following the end of the transfer market.

On a number of occasions this summer, the French midfielder was said to be considering a move away from Spurs due to a series of different reasons.

Some reports suggested that if his teammates and friends Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko were to leave the club, Ndombele would hope to follow them out.

Both of those players did indeed end up leaving Spurs but the third Frenchman remains in north London for the time being. Thomlinson has now claimed that this could be problematic for the Premier League club.

When discussing the matter on Football Daily’s Sunday Vibes, he said: “The Ndombele situation [is] still kind of hanging over the team a little bit. I think he probably does want to leave especially now that Aurier has gone, Sissoko has gone.

“Those were the sort of players that people were saying is his friendship group and the reason he wants to leave. I just think that they probably could have done with getting that sorted.”

TIF thoughts on Tanguy Ndombele and Tottenham Hotspur…

Spurs paid French side Lyon a reported £63m for the midfielder back in 2019, though it would be hard to suggest they’ve got full value for money since then.

Indeed, with just eight goals and eight assists in 75 appearances for the club, Ndombele has hardly set the world alight during his time in London.

Add to this the fact that the 24-year-old has yet to even feature in the league for the club this season, and it’s easy to see why Thomlinson feels the presence of Ndombele at Spurs could end up being a negative one this season.
