A number of Newcastle United fans have been left fuming after Steve Bruce’s decision to supposedly name four goalkeepers in his squad was challenged in an article by journalist Liam Kennedy.

Bruce will have to name his 25-man Premier League squad at the end of this week. Back in August, the Magpies manager said he may have to select an unprecedented amount of ‘keepers in his squad because of injury problems.

A recent article published on NewcastleWorld explained that this looks likely, and then outlined why it doesn’t make a great deal of sense. The story claimed that if the club was to simply name three ‘keepers in the squad, they will almost certainly be fine.

It explained that even if all three goalkeepers were to be injured at the same time, Newcastle would have likely been granted special dispensation to sign another player outside the transfer window.

Kennedy shared the story on his Twitter page and it quickly drew some angered responses.

Here’s what these Newcastle fans said…

“Embarrassing, only one way this season is going. Early September here and this has car crash written all over it.”

“Would not surprise me if Bruce starts all 4 of them.”
“Precisely, should name 3 and get a freebie for the bench.”
“Run by utter clowns.”
“Pathetic embarrassing club.”
“About as pointless as the manager. #BruceOut.”

Freddie Woodman has started in goal for all of the Magpies’ league games this season. Meanwhile, Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie should provide him with competition for places across the league campaign if Bruce does opt to include all four players in his squad.

It will certainly be interesting to see the response if the club end up making all of the goalkeepers available to them this season.
