has been speaking on the Everything is Black and White podcast about Freddie Woodman’s chances of remaining in goal against Leeds United.

It has not been the best start to life as a Premier League goalkeeper for Woodman who made his debut in the top flight against West Ham on the opening weekend of the season and conceded four, saved a penalty but saw the rebound go in.

Will Newcastle United get relegated this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

There has been very little that woodman could have done to prevent any of the goals conceded by the Magpies this season although, against Manchester United he was probably at fault for both of Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals and with Karl Darlow on the bench, Steve Bruce has a decision to make.

Ryder gave his thoughts on what might happen to the number one spot at Newcastle.

(02:58) “I’ve seen a lot said about Freddie Woodman, for me, he was left totally exposed, not the first Newcastle keeper to be left totally exposed and for me, that defence in front of him they should be the ones having to go on social media and saying we were not good enough, we did not offer our goalkeeper enough protection.

“Because to leave the blame at the door of an inexperienced goalkeeper, at Premier League level we’re talking I think that’s too strong for me. I think it would be very harsh, in my opinion, if Steve Bruce uses that as an excuse to axe him for that Leeds game because we know obviously, he did that last season with Darlow.

“It’s just such an easy thing to do after losing at Man United. I don’t think Freddie Woodman deserves that and I think he should be allowed to stay in goal for the next couple of games and prove himself.”

TIF Thoughts on Woodman….

Having impressed on loan at Swansea City in last season with 21 clean sheets as well as being part of the side that reached the play-off final, Woodman expected to be out on loan again this time around but following an injury setback to Martin Dubravka and Darlow having COVID he was handed the starting role.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

Much like last season, a keeper is now under pressure to perform and keep his place following the return of a more senior professional, however, this time Darlow is the one returning and not being under pressure like he was with Dubravka last campaign and Bruce has an almighty call to make as dropping Woodman may potentially ruin his confidence and willingness to sign a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2023.
