Football journalist Joe Donnohue has been sharing his thoughts on Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce and his current situation at the Tyneside club.

This comes after Donnohue made an appearance on a recent video from the Mirror Football YouTube channel where he spoke about a number of subjects concerning a range of clubs in the Premier League.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

On the subject of Bruce, who recently blamed some sections of the media for the negative mood around the club from the fans, Donnohue had this to say about Bruce and the current situation at St. James’ Park. (19.36)

He said: “I think it’s one which will rumble on throughout the season, whether Newcastle end up staying in the bottom three for an extended period, that might force the club’s hand, as we’ve seen previously with the likes of Steve McClaren.

“But it could be well into the new year, I’d suspect, before we start seeing any sort of serious movement at boardroom level to think about the security of Bruce’s position because, for the time being, if he strings a few wins together, Callum Wilson or Allan Saint-Maximin, if they start stringing a few goals and a few wins together then all of a sudden there’s no crisis anymore according to the powers that be.

“I think the fans recognise that there are deeper issues at play at Newcastle and I don’t think they’ll go with Steve Bruce leaving put it that way.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Donnohue’s comments on Bruce…

In our view, given how Newcastle have lost three out of their four opening league games of the season, we feel that the negativity from the fans would be more to do with how their team have been playing rather than the media being negative towards Bruce.

Do you think Newcastle could get relegated under Steve Bruce?

Yes

No

No

Moving forward, taking into account how some Newcastle fans have protested against having Bruce as their team’s manager in the past, perhaps if Bruce were to leave the club, this could help get rid of some of the negativity around the club.

However, with Donnohue saying he doesn’t think the club would get rid of Bruce, the fans could well just have to settle for another season of having Bruce in charge of the team.
