Newcastle United fans have reacted with frustration after Chris Waugh provided a worrying fitness update for key man Callum Wilson.

As reported in The Athletic, Waugh claimed that the Magpies striker is set to miss the rest of September and may not be ready to feature for the team again until after the October international break.

The article went on to state that the Englishman has a quad muscle injury which now looks likely to keep him out of action for as long as six weeks.

Waugh shared the information on his Twitter feed and it quickly saw a number of United supporters vent their frustration in response.

Here’s what these Newcastle United fans said

“We knew this. And it’ll simply be down to the club’s incompetence that we fail.”

“Relegate us now.”

“This is what happens when you have a wafer-thin squad with key players being injury prone. Was always going to happen. But it’s okay we have Gayle and big Joe or maybe try one of the four keepers up top. Shocking and embarrassing.”

“Literally the most predictable issue #NUFC would face this season & yet the club did nothing.”
“Things just go from bad to worse around here…”
“Well… Doomsday clock just ticked to 11:59 for Bruce.”
Judging from the comments, it’s clear to see just how highly many of these Newcastle fans rate Wilson as a striker – or perhaps they simply just do not rate the alternative options in the squad.
The injured striker has a fairly strong goal-scoring record for the Magpies, having netted 14 times in 31 appearances across all competitions.

The club’s alternatives, however, have not been able to provide the same consistency when it comes to finding the back of the net.
Indeed, Dwight Gale has only five Premier League goals for the side, while Joelinton has managed to score just 10 times in 85 appearances since joining the club in 2019.
