Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer believes there is now less pressure on Manchester United star Paul Pogba following this summer’s transfer window.

Pogba was once the most expensive signing in British football history after joining United from Juventus in an £89m deal back in 2016.

However, that record has been smashed twice this summer following Romelu Lukaku’s £97.5m return to Chelsea and Jack Grealish’s £100m transfer to United’s rivals Manchester City.

Is there now less pressure on Pogba?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Ultimately, for Palmer, it means the spotlight is now unlikely to be fixated on Pogba and his price tag 24/7. He told TIF:

“I think there was a huge monkey on his back with the amount of money he’s gone for, but now that’s gone.

“He’s struggled with injuries, but he’s fully fit now. I think he’s a terrific, terrific footballer.”

With a certain Cristiano Ronaldo now also at United, returning for a second spell just like Pogba, the limelight is likely to be off of the Frenchman.

Having less pressure on him could benefit Pogba and help the £54m-rated midfielder to just get on with things.

He was excellent in the 5-1 thrashing of Palmer’s former side Leeds United at the start of the season, coming up with four assists. United fans will be hoping to see more of the same once the international break is over.
