On the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast, football insider Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about all things transfer-related.

According to the Italian journalist, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson had a proposal from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer before he put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Was the new contract for Henderson warranted?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had already snapped up former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum earlier in the summer, and Romano believes they were also looking at 31-year-old Henderson.

Henderson has never played outside of the English leagues having joined the Anfield side from boyhood club Sunderland, in a deal believed to be worth £16.2m back in 2011.

Discussing the England midfielder’s new contract with the Reds, Romano had the following to say on Henderson’s proposal from the Ligue 1 side.

“For Jordan Henderson, I want to say behind the scenes that Paris Saint-Germain were thinking of Jordan Henderson as a potential new signing before [the] Lionel Messi opportunity.

“Paris Saint-Germain were looking for Jordan Henderson when he had no agreement with Liverpool over [a] new contract. ”

TIF Thoughts on Henderson at Liverpool…

Henderson joined Liverpool 10 years ago as a 20-year-old, at a time when club legend Steven Gerrard was captaining the side, but his development on and off the field has been clear to see.

We think the new contract awarded to Henderson over the summer was more than warranted given the huge success the £140k-per-week man has captained Jurgen Klopp’s side towards.

As well as the Champions League and Premier League titles, Henderson has proven himself to be an exemplary club captain with the work he has done off the field, too.
