Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has provided the club’s fans with a positive update regarding the fitness of Diego Llorente.

The defender pulled up with what seemed to be an issue with his hamstring during the first half of Leeds’ recent home loss to Liverpool in the Premier League.

Having already missed a number of games last season due to a similar injury, the 28-year-old’s struggles with fitness could start to become a source of great concern to Marcelo Bielsa as well as the club’s supporters.

However, an unlikely source provided some good news with regards to Llorente’s current health. Indeed, while speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Bamford said (quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post) “I think after the game he was a bit emotional because I think he was probably panicking that it was something similar to last year which kept him out for a while.”

“But I saw him this morning and he seemed in good spirits. He was smiling and seemed good,” before concluding, “I think he is alright.”

TIF thoughts on Diego Llorente and Leeds United…
Llorente has only played for more than an hour in one Premier League game so far this season, the 1-1 draw away to Burnley. Considering that result gave Leeds one point of their total two points in the league to this point, whilst also being in the club’s top three for both tackles and blocks (via WhoScored) it could be argued that Biela’s men have missed his presence.

Could Leeds get relegated this season?

His early exit certainly did the club no favours in the Liverpool game, which they ended up losing 3-0, with two of the goals coming after Llorente’s departure.
The Spaniard will likely hope to return to the team as soon as possible to help get the team’s season truly up and running. If Bamford’s update is anything to go by, it looks like Llorente’s return could occur quicker than some first feared.
