Leeds United fans have been sending a message to the club as footage emerged of one of their young players on international duty.

Joe Gelhardt moved to Elland Road in the summer of 2020 from Wigan Athletic and has flirted with a place in the first team on occasion, having managed to make it onto the bench eight times last season, but that first bit of action still eludes him as he enters his second season at the club.

His impressive form for the U23 side, however, which included 11 goals in Premier League 2 Division 2 last season has caught the eye of England U20 manager Andy Edwards, who selected him for their recent friendly game against Romania – a game that they won comfortably 6-1, with Gelhardt bagging two on the day.

Do you think Gelhardt is ready to play for the senior Leeds side?

Footage of his second goal, a penalty, was shared on Twitter and subsequently picked up by MOTLeedsNews, where it was relayed to fans on the Leeds Insider Facebook page, and plenty of supporters were very eager to see him get a proper taste of first-team football soon:

Having got off to a good start this season for the Leeds U23 side with two goals in three appearances, surely it can’t be much longer before he grabs Marcelo Bielsa’s attention and gets a proper chance with the senior team.
