Former Leeds United star David Norris insists that Diego Llorente simply cannot get going at Elland Road, with the BBC reporting he will once again be absent against West Ham today.

The defender arrived at the club from Real Sociedad in 2020, with Leeds paying £18m to bring him in from La Liga.

However, he has somewhat struggled to make a real impact due to injury woes under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Llorente has made just 18 appearances for the club in all competitions and has played just twice in the Premier League this term, playing 65 minutes against Burnley and 33 against Liverpool.

He has confirmed that he has not sustained a serious injury after missing the clash with Newcastle United, and claims that he will be back in the first-team soon enough.

However, Norris thinks that the injury is another example of Llorente failing to gel with his new surroundings.

Speaking about the Spaniard, he said: “It’s a massive blow, especially for him, it’ll feel like he just can’t get going. And you’ve seen it before where players go to a club and they can’t get going, they go somewhere else and things fall into place.

“It’s a blow for him, it’s just not happening for him over a long period of time, he just keeps getting these injuries.”

Llorente has won eight caps for Spain and has a contract that runs until 2024 at Elland Road.
