Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has told This Is Futbol that he can understand why Jurgen Klopp did not let Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones join the Whites this summer.

According to Goal, Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta contacted Liverpool over the possibility of taking Jones on loan for the season, but he was quickly rebuffed by the Merseyside club, with the 20-year-old still in Klopp’s plans.

He played regularly for Liverpool last term, making 29 appearances combined in the Premier League and Champions League and 34 overall.

Would you have taken Jones?

Absolutely!

No

No

Considering that, Palmer is not surprised that Klopp was reluctant to let him go in the recent window. Speaking exclusively to TIF about Leeds’ interest in the English youngster, the ex-Whites player said:

“Listen, you always ask the question, don’t you? You always ask the question. He’s very talented. The boy is very talented, but he did get minutes last season. I think he played 29 games in the big competitions for Liverpool.

“He’ll get minutes again at Liverpool this season, so I can see why Jurgen wouldn’t let him out at this moment of time.”

Indeed, given how often he used him last term, it was logical for Klopp to keep Jones around. And with Harvey Elliott suffering that horrific injury last weekend, his chances of playing in the coming weeks have obviously gone up.
