Speaking on the Royal Blue podcast, David Prentice believes that the Everton players are now buying into Rafa Benitez’s methods.

It has been a successful start to the season for Everton as they are still yet to taste their first defeat, despite defeat appearing to be possibly on the cards on Monday against Burnley when they went 1-0 down.

These positive results are now paying off for Benitez who was not openly welcomed to Goodison Park by Everton fans and now the players are fully buying into his tactics and methods, as Prentice explained on the podcast, the players are appreciating what Benitez is doing for them (28:53):

“The players still buy into what he’s saying because they appreciate that, those methods are helping to make it a more successful football team, so, early signs are very, very promising.

“The manager has made a really, really significant impact with arguably the same squad of players.

“So when the time comes that he can spend, sort of decent money and bring in sort of better quality players of his own, hopefully, we’ll see you know, sort of significant improvements again.”

TIF Thoughts on Benitez at Everton…

The Toffees brought in Carlo Ancelotti in December 2019 with an aim, based off his track record, to attract bigger names to the football club and really kick on towards the European places, but that idea fell flat on its face around March and April which saw them finish in a lowly 10th place and ultimately losing Ancelotti to Real Madrid.

However, this may not have been a bad thing for the club as Benitez appears to have made some decent signings with the types of players he’s brought in. Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray were brought in for a combined total of £1.8 million and have become huge hits thus far with four goals and two assists between them in the Premier League which is much better than having someone such as James Rodriguez, who is yet to even make a matchday squad.
