Crystal Palace’s squad needed change, former Eagles striker Marcus Bent has told This Is Futbol.

New manager Patrick Vieira and sporting director Dougie Freedman were extremely active during the summer transfer window as they looked to strengthen Palace’s team.

Young players such as Odsonne Edouard and Conor Gallagher were brought in and have managed to make an immediate impact.

Are you pleased with Palace's summer business?

Both Edouard and Gallagher played a key part in the destruction of Tottenham earlier this month, with the former grabbing two goals and the latter an assist in that impressive 3-0 win at Selhurst Park.

Speaking exclusively to TIF about Palace’s recruitment drive during the summer, Bent said:

“It needed a change. It needed a change, some sort of injection of… not so much quality, but it was stagnant.”

Palace had a lot of ageing players, especially at the back, so it can be argued that things needed freshening up.

Gary Cahill and Scott Dan, now no longer at the club, are both 35 and 34 respectively. In contrast, Marc Guehi, 21, and Joachim Andersen, 25, are much younger and can make an impact both now and in the future.

All in all, with the likes of Guehi and Edouard arriving to improve Palace’s defence and attack, you would have to say that the south London club did pretty good business.
