Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has been sharing his praise for Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey and his season with the Midlands club so far.

This comes after Preece made an appearance on a recent edition of the Birmingham Mail’s Villa-themed Claret & Blue podcast, where he spoke about a range of subjects concerning the Villans.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

During the podcast, Preece was asked what he made of Ramsey’s latest performance for Dean Smith’s side in their recent 3-0 win over Everton at Villa Park, where he played through the entire match.

In response, Preece had this to say about the midfielder.

He said: “I mean, he just glides on the ball, doesn’t he? Really nice on the eye in central midfield, and he knows he can do it at this level now.

“The Chelsea performance was a real coming-of-age one and against Everton at the weekend again, it’s another 8/10 display in front of a baying Villa Park who want every ounce of blood off you, he give it them back and he was everywhere, unlucky not to score, I would have been chuffed with him if he scored.

“He’s had a fine start to the season, Premier League performer now in his own right and his value is rocketing by the week, I mean, what’s he worth now, £20 million?

“He’s a 20-year-old kid here who has got a handful of Premier League starts under his belt. He’s an England U21 international as well, so it bodes well. He’ll keep working hard at Bodymoor and I think Smith deserves credit in the way he’s managed him.

“He rejected countless loan offers last summer, kept him around the group and that’s brought him on another level now so yeah, fantastic to have him in Villa’s arsenal, a player who can do it at the level now, so yeah, really pleased.”

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Preece’s comments on Ramsey and his season so far…

Ramsey made his senior debut for the Villans back in February 2019 during a Championship clash against West Bromwich Albion.

Since then, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £4.5 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 32 appearances for the club across all competitions, providing one assist in the process.

Given how the Express & Star gave Ramsey an overall match rating of 7/10 for his performance against Everton and said that he “looks more at home with every passing match”, this backs up Preece’s point that the midfielder is settling into this level of football in the Premier League.
