Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has been sharing his thoughts on Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, his time playing for the senior team and his future at the Midlands club.

This comes after Preece made an appearance on a recent episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Dean Smith’s side after their recent 3-0 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of the Chelsea game, Preece had this to say about Ramsey, in particular, who started the game but was substituted off in the second half against the west London club. (4.23)

He said: “I think Jacob Ramsey could save Villa a fortune here.

“I did note down in pre-season that he looked a lot bigger in stature, he’s really a size now like a boxer like his old man kind of stature.

“He was gliding past Chelsea at the Bridge and that’s going to build his confidence, he can go to Stamford Bridge and give Saul [Niguez] the run around like he did and that’s going to bode well so he backed up his Newcastle performance with another one at Chelsea and let’s see what he can do this season.

“Really good start from Ramsey.”

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Preece’s comments on Ramsey…

Since making his senior debut for Villa back in February 2019 in a Championship match against West Bromwich Albion, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £4.5 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 31 appearances for Villa in which he has managed to provide one assist along the way.

Taking into account how only five players have registered higher overall season ratings than Ramsey so far this season according to WhoScored, this shows that he has proven he has what it takes to play amongst the rest of his Villa teammates at this level, and also shows why Preece thinks the midfielder could save the club millions in the future with him being a long-term option in the squad.

Moving forward, given the physical development that Preece spoke about in the podcast that Ramsey made over the summer, if he can continue to develop in other areas of the game, he could well go on to be a very important player for Villa throughout the foreseeable future.
