Football presenter Darren Fletcher has been sharing his thoughts on Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton and his time in charge of the club so far.

This comes after Fletcher made an appearance on a recent episode of Forest-themed podcast Garibaldi Red where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Midlands club.

On the subject of Hughton, who has been on the receiving end of some criticism recently due to Forest’s poor start to the season, Fletcher had this to say about the manager, his appointment and his time at the club. (4.17)

He said: “I would put my hand up and say that I was wrong [about Hughton’s appointment] because I thought we would see an impact from Chris, I thought we’d see an instant impact from Chris, and I thought you’d see gradual progress and his track record as a manager would tell you that that would be the case.

“I wouldn’t say a managerial performance is ever bulletproof, but this looked to be a very good one at the outset by the owner.

“But I look at it and I don’t see them any further on as a team now than they were the day he came.

“I don’t really see progress. I don’t really see too much of a pattern. I don’t really see anything that gives you optimism that they’re only a result or two away from it really kicking on.

“They just look to me at the moment having seen live two or three times this season that they look a little bit of a team that’s almost caught in the fog.

“I see other teams come and play them and they just seem to be more of a well-oiled unit, they just seem to be more comfortable in what they are.”

TIF Thoughts on Darren Fletcher’s comments on Hughton and his time in charge of Forest…

Since taking charge of Forest back in October 2020, the 62-year-old has taken charge of 52 matches with Forest in which they have won 14, drawn 17 and lost 21 in the process.

As mentioned earlier, Forest have had a pretty disappointing start to their 2021/22 Championship campaign after drawing one and losing five of their opening six games, which makes it easy to see why Hughton is under fire at the moment.

Do you think Forest have made any progress under Chris Hughton?

Yes

No

In our view, this poor start to the season does suggest that not much progress has been made under Hughton’s guidance considering the amount of time he’s been at the club, as Fletcher spoke about in the podcast.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see just how much time Hughton is given before the owners potentially feel that enough is enough and the club can’t continue the campaign with him in charge.
