Nigel Jemson insists that Steve Cooper would not be the first choice to take over at Nottingham Forest for the club’s fans.

The former Swansea City boss appears to be the current frontrunner and is reported to be in talks to take over from Chris Hughton after the latter was sacked earlier this week.

Indeed, the Championship club have endured a roundly awful start to the season and are currently rock bottom of the table.

Under Hughton, they drew one game, against rivals Derby County, who have their own woes, and lost six.

The statistics make grim reading, as Forest have scored just five goals and conceded 12.

Cooper missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season via the play-offs when he was managing Swansea but Jemson, the former Forest striker, insists that he would not be the first choice of the City Ground faithful.

He said: “Steve Cooper, I wouldn’t think that he would be the fans’ number one choice, to be perfectly honest.”

Cooper has been out of work since leaving Swansea in July.
