Former Nottingham Forest star Nigel Jemson insists that Lyle Taylor cannot be written off at the club.

The striker joined the club in 2020 from Charlton Athletic, where he had been prolific.

Indeed, Taylor scored 35 goals in 67 games for the Addicks but has struggled to find the net for Forest.

Do you think that Forest will be fine financially?

In total, he’s scored six times in 47 outings, and was linked with a summer move to Birmingham City, although that did not come off.

Taylor did score on the opening day of the season, against Coventry City, but Forest have struggled immensely at the start of the campaign.

They have yet to win a game, losing four in a row before mustering a 1-1 draw with fierce rivals Derby County at the weekend, which was followed by another reverse against Cardiff City on Sunday.

Jemson, though, insists that Taylor simply needs to hit the back of the net again in order to kick off a run of form, insisting that strikers need confidence if they are to be at their best.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “It possibly hasn’t. I like him as a player, I saw him scoring goals for Charlton, and sometimes you have moves where it doesn’t work out.

“But I think we’re probably a bit too premature in writing him off. He came last season, we struggled a bit, we’ve struggled a bit this season.

“Strikers need confidence, he got off the mark first game of the season and then he sees himself out of the team again.”
