Former Nottingham Forest star Nigel Jemson insists that Chris Wilder would be open to managing the club after the sacking of Chris Hughton.

However, it appears that the club are poised to appoint former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper after beginning the season in genuinely appalling form.

Under Hughton, Forest have collected just one point from their first seven games, losing six of their encounters.

They have been linked with Wilder, too, with the former Sheffield United boss having been out of work since his exit from the Blades last season.

Wilder, of course, took the club out of the Championship and into the Premier League, masterminding an amazing top-half finish in his first season in the top-flight.

He resigned as their relegation became an inevitability but Jemson believes he would be attracted to the prospect of moving to the City Ground.

He said: “Chris Wilder, I know him well, I think he’d be attracted to the football club.”

Wilder has also managed Alfreton Town, Halifax Town, Oxford United and Northampton Town.
