Former Nottingham Forest star Nigel Jemson insists that the club should have sacked Chris Hughton in the summer.

The club finally pulled the trigger on the embattled manager in midweek after yet another dire showing from the club.

Forest lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough in midweek and have subsequently sacked the former Newcastle United boss.

Are you happy Chris Hughton has been sacked?

No

It was their sixth defeat in seven games, having also drawn 1-1 with bitter rivals Derby County, and the hunt is now on for a replacement.

Forest, of course, brought in a number of new signings in the summer.

No fewer than nine players have arrived at the City Ground: Ethan Horvath, Max Lowe, Philip Zinckernagel, Jordi Osei-Tutu, James Garner, Braian Ojeda, Mohamed Drager, Xande Silva and Djed Spence have all arrived on a variety of deals, from free transfers to loans.

And Jemson feels the club made a mistake in not sacking Hughton in the summer, and allowing a new manager to spearhead the recruitment.

He exclusively told TIF: “If you’re going to get rid of Chris, you should have done it at the beginning of the season for me and let a new manager come in and do it his way.

“Not to give Chris until the end of the transfer window and then get rid of him because a new manager comes in and he might not want the players Chris has brought in, so it’s just a vicious circle again.”
