Sunderland fans have been reacting to footage that has emerged of their young loanee Callum Doyle in his debut this weekend against Wigan Athletic.

Sunderland signed the 17-year-old on a season-long loan in the summer, and he has been thrown straight into the mix at The Stadium Of Light in the club’s first game of the season, appearing to be settling in quite well.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

Manchester City fan @VickyKDB_MCFC put together a montage of some of his best moments of the game, both when it came to defending with some blocks and tackles as well as in attack, where he was able to show off some rather impressive passes.

That footage was then relayed to fans on Twitter by Sunderland journalist James Copley for Black Cats fans to react to, and it’s fair to say that there were a number of them that were left impressed, with many of them blown away by how young he was:

“Incredible isn’t it and only 17 and he already looks a future Man City/England captain. If he has a goal-scoring header from set-pieces he will be the ultimate CB.”

“I know they say don’t fall in love with loan players but, love you”
“Scary how comfortable he looks at 17, Man City have got an absolute baller on their hands, gonna be a pleasure watching the lad while he’s here”
“This lad may not be one of ours but at 17 and playing like this, the kid has a bright future at City and hopefully his country.”
“Wow only just realised he’s 17”
“Sensational the boy”
“What a player at 17 years old”

Will Sunderland earn promotion this season?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It’s just a shame that he’s only on loan, meaning that his long-term future up on Wearside is far from secure, but who knows, maybe if Sunderland move up the divisions in the next few seasons, they might be in a position to bring him on board full-time.
