Former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Mark Crossley thinks the Owls are destined for promotion as they boast the best player in League One.
Wednesday are looking to earn an immediate return to the Championship after suffering relegation on the final day of last season.
Crossley reckons creative midfielder Barry Bannan could steer the Owls back into English football’s second tier after remaining with the club despite summer interest from Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Burnley and Watford.
Is Bannan the best player in League One?
Yes
No
Bannan joined Wednesday from Palace six years ago and has gone on to become a fans’ favourite.
The 31-year-old former Scotland international has made 262 appearances for the Hillsborough outfit, scored 14 goals and provided 39 assists going into the clash against Rotherham.
Bannan goes into the weekend having already played every minute of Wednesday’s League One campaign so far and continues to wear the captain’s armband.
Crossley believes keeping Bannan at the club could prove the difference in the Owls’ promotion bid.
He exclusively told TIF: “They’ve managed to keep Barry Bannan, who is arguably the best player in League One.”
