Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has told This is Futbol that Rangers are still trying to sign midfielder Joey Veerman from Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

Steve Gerrard has been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far, bringing in just three new faces as he attempts to the defend their Scottish Premiership title following last season’s success.

Rangers kicked of their campaign against Livingston on Saturday, but their biggest test this week will come on Wednesday when they return to the Champions League for the first time in more than a decade against Malmo in the qualifiers.

Gerrard will be no doubt hoping to add players with European experience before the window closes later this month.

And whilst Dutch midfielder Veerman hasn’t previously played in any form of European competition, his record in the Eredivisie of 11 goals and 15 assists in 53 appearances is an extremely impressive one.

Tore André Flo is Rangers club-record signing, but how much was he bought for?

According to the Daily Record, the Scottish champions are yet to contact Heerenveen, who’re asking for £8.5m, about the possibility of bringing Veerman to Ibrox, but Bridge told This is Futbol that he’s a player that Gerrard is keen on:

“I know they’re trying to sign Joey Veerman. I think the clubs are some way apart, but in Scotland you can’t be too far apart because you can’t spend silly money.

“Much will depend on if Rangers can qualify for the Champions League group stages – that could seriously define their season.”
