Journalist Anthony Haggerty believes that Ryan Christie should stay at Celtic this summer and sign a new contract.

The winger has been linked with a potential move to Premier League clubs Burnley and Southampton in this transfer window ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

His current contract is set to expire in January of next year.

That means that, if Celtic cannot agree new terms with Christie, they run the risk of him departing the club on a free transfer.

Haggerty, as a result, believes that the 26-year-old should commit his future to the club, as he is likely to earn himself a bigger move if he continues to perform at a high level for the club.

Christie has made over 140 appearances for the Scottish giants, scoring over 4o goals and laying on over 40 assists, winning the Scottish Premiership three times, the Scottish League Cup twice and the Scottish Cup once.

Haggerty said: “I think Ryan Christie would be wise to sign it.

“His talent, which he naturally has, will take him on to bigger and better things further down the line but I think some of the players might recognise something happening with Ange Postecoglou, they might want to be part of it and stick around.”
