Journalist Anthony Haggerty believes that Celtic need to make Ryan Christie one of the top earners at the club if they are to keep him before the transfer deadline.

The winger has been a long-serving presence at the club, making a total of 149 appearances and scoring 41 goals, while also registering 44 assists.

Christie’s current contract is set to expire in January of 2022, meaning the Scottish giants need to strike an agreement sooner rather than later or risk losing him on a free transfer.

He has been linked with a potential move to Burnley in this transfer window and Haggerty believes that Celtic need to strike an agreement to keep him at the club.

He has revealed that the 26-year-old is not one of the highest earners at the club, but that he would like to be compensated similarly to those who are currently earning the biggest wages at Celtic Park.

Haggerty said: “I think for all intents and purposes, Ryan Christie is not one of the top earners at the club and I think that’s what the problem has been.

“He wants a financial package commensurate with the top earners at the club. If they can sit down and have a conversation and meet him somewhere in between then they would be silly not to do that.”
