Rennes forward M’Baye Niang could be a great signing for Celtic, Ligue 1 expert Adam White has told This Is Futbol.

Niang has been linked with a move to Celtic this summer, with Foot Mercato claiming the Glasgow club have made an enquiry about the player.

The 26-year-old had his struggles at AC Milan but managed to pick his career up again at Rennes before moving to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli on a short loan spell.

Would Niang be a great signing?

In both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 Ligue 1 seasons, Niang managed to reach double figures for goals, and White believes he could be just as deadly at Celtic.

“He could be a great signing for Celtic,” the Get French Football News writer said. “He’s sort of quietly a very good player.

“He’s proven in Ligue 1. He got double figures the season before last when he was first choice and Rennes had a decent season.

“He’d score goals basically in any team I think to some extent and given the opportunities. He’s kind of a finisher, holds the ball up nicely and good in the air. I think he’d be a real handful for Scottish Premiership defences”

If Celtic do go on to buy Niang and he replicates the form he showed in his earlier Rennes days, then the Senegalese striker could end up being quite the acquisition for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

They could face competition for his signature, though, with Foot Mercato stating that Anderlecht and Nottingham Forest also hold an interest.
