Despite a comprehensive win in the Scottish Premier League, many Celtic have been left unsure about the future of one of their star players.

Ryan Christie managed three assists as the Bhoys strolled to a 6-0 win over at Celtic Park, but the 26-year-old’s fine performance thrust him into the limelight.

Christie’s current contract expires in January, meaning he is currently allowed to discuss his future with other clubs, as well as being able to sign a pre-contract – though Celtic are said to be in talks with him about a new deal (as per The Scottish Sun).

After the win, manager Ange Postecoglou was asked about Christie’s future. As reported in The Irish Times, he said: “I don’t think I need to twist his arm. I’ve already said that if this doesn’t convince him, I don’t think anything can.”

Sports Editor at Radio Clyde Alison Conroy shared the quote on her Twitter feed, which naturally sparked a lot of interest from many Celtic supporters.

What did these Celtic have to say?

“Is the Ryan Christie stalemate anything to do with his salary? My guess is that’s at the heart of the problem.”

@bathville

“Money talks.”

“Interesting – sounds like the deal isn’t as close as his performances suggests. Playing like a Bhoy that knows his future.”

@bhoysviews

“Interesting Alison I would have thought that Ryan was motivated by x3 the weekly wage & a change of scene. Maybe the influx of new players, Ange’s man-management % philosophy may stop Ryan in his tracks. Modern deals can be struck, a 3-year deal x 2 wages and release clause.”

“If Christie won’t sign an extension get him sold.”

@cmonthehoops111

“The lad’s a different player.”

It looks as though the quotes from Postecoglou have left many Celtic unsure about the likely future of one of their star players.

Some seem to think the contract is going to be signed, while others believe money is the key sticking point for the whole uncertainty.

Despite the contract issues, Christie is still playing a key part in the early stages of Celtic’s season – having featured in five games already – which suggests Postecoglou is probably keen to keep him at the club.
