On the latest edition of A Celtic State of Mind podcast, Russell Boyce has been speaking about the possibility of Ryan Christie extending his stay at Celtic.

It has been reported Ange Postecoglou would love to see the 26-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal with the Parkhead club, however, it is believed his future lies in his own hands.

Do you think Christie will sign a new deal?

No

The Scotsman has reportedly received interest from OGC Nice, Crystal Palace and Burnley this summer, with just a matter of months remaining on his current deal with the Bhoys.

Christie was not involved in Postecoglou’s squad for their 3-2 Scottish League Cup victory over Hearts on Sunday, which can only have added fuel to the fire.

Discussing the future of the Celtic midfielder, Boyce had the following to say on what a new contract could do for the club if Christie was to extend his stay.

“I think if we can get Christie to be the one who surprises us all by extending his stay, particularly in the form he’s shown so far this season, and yet again shows another example of a convert to Ange-ball – that is definitely a positive sign.”

TIF Thoughts on Christie’s future…

It is clear Boyce feels Christie extending his stay at Parkhead would be the best outcome from this transfer saga hanging over the 26-year-old’s head.

However, if he is not willing to extend his stay, then we feel Celtic have to let him go this summer whilst they are able to still get a transfer fee for him before his contract expires.

It would be best for all involved if they were able to find a resolution as soon as possible as it would allow for Postecoglou and the Celtic board to approach their desired replacement if Christie is hoping to leave.
