Lawrence Connolly has been speaking on the latest edition of A Celtic State of Mind podcast to discuss something he has noticed about during his short spell at the Parkhead club.

Discussing the new Celtic manager, Connolly pointed out how Postecoglou has been trying to boost the confidence of some of his players at Parkhead.

The podcaster identified Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston as two members of the squad the head coach has picked out as players receiving criticism and has tried to boost their confidence in the media.

Connolly also noticed how Callum was taken off in the Hoops’ qualifier last Thursday with less than 10 minutes remaining in order to receive applause from the Celtic faithful for his display.

On the subject of the Australian manager at the helm of the Bhoys, Connolly had the following to say on the positive details he has noticed about the 55-year-old.

“I’m thinking back to Thursday night. Before Thursday, he came out and praised Taylor and Ralston. He knows they’ve been getting a bit of stick.

“But one thing we didn’t mention is, he made sure CalMac got a standing ovation by taking him off early. He is definitely building the players up, isn’t he?

“He is putting his faith in them. And you’re thinking, when was the last time we saw a manager doing that?”

TIF Thoughts on Postecoglou’s start at Celtic…

The Australian got off to a difficult start in the first game of the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership season against Hearts at Tynecastle Park, however, he has been able to get his side back on track since.

Celtic have recorded four consecutive wins across all competitions since the defeat to Hearts, but a lot will rest on their ambition.

So it seems that the manager is not simply working on the training pitch in order to get results. Clearly, the messages he has sent through his substitutions and press conferences have had a noticeable effect on the supporters – and perhaps the players have followed suit.

The Bhoys face Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the play-off round to seal their spot in the group stage draw. Should they qualify, then it may well provide them hope of keeping the likes of this summer.
