On the latest episode of A Celtic State of Mind podcast, broadcast journalist Brian Degning has been speaking about the Parkhead side’s current issues in the striker position.

The Bhoys have been recently linked with the Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis from Dutch side VVV-Venlo.

Do you think Edouard will leave this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This comes amid the summer of speculation surrounding the future of their current striker Odsonne Edouard, who was tipped with a potential summer switch to the Premier League earlier in the window.

Ange Postecoglou currently has seven forward players on the books at Parkhead, with reports suggesting an eighth could be on his way in the coming days.

With the Bhoys having a surplus of attacking players at their disposal, Degning discussed his expectations for the final weeks in this summer’s transfer window, with Giakoumakis heavily linked.

“I’m interested to see though if that then means that [Albian] Ajeti will go. Because I think having [Kyogo] Furuhashi, Edouard, Ajeti and [Leigh] Griffiths and this new Greek striker, potentially all at the club, seems overkill for me.

“So I expect something to happen in the striker department in terms of moving out. I just don’t think it’ll be Eddie.”

TIF Thoughts on Celtic’s striker options…

The arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi at Celtic this summer has shown early signs of promise, with the Japanese forward netting six goals in his six games across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Although it is early days, we think Furuhashi is showing signs of being capable of leading the frontline at Parkhead this season.

Edouard is now playing into the final year of his contract with the Scottish club, so this summer seems their last opportunity to generate a decent fee for the 23-year-old.

If there is serious interest in the Frenchman this summer, we think Celtic should seriously consider selling him, even if it is for slightly less than what they originally would have liked at the beginning of the season.
