Football journalist Dean Jones has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard potentially making a move to a club in the English Premier League this summer.

This comes after Jones made an appearance on a recent episode of Touchline Talk, where he spoke about a number of subjects concerning a variety of clubs.

On the subject of Edouard, who has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park this summer, with Brighton & Hove Albion linked with the Frenchman in recent weeks, Jones had this to say about a potential transfer to the Premier League for the Celtic man.

He said: “I want to see it, to be honest. I mean, it’s been talked about for so long, I’d really want to see him make the jump.

“I think he was pretty set on going to Leicester at one stage and I think because they got such a good deal on Patson Daka, he was very disappointed to find out that that deal was going ahead and that kind of left him in limbo.

“So, he’ll be very keen, I’m sure, to get that deal through – if his representatives are in talks right now [with Brighton], then they’ll be pushing to get it done, because he wants to leave Celtic, he wants to test himself in the Premier League and he’s got all the credentials there to be that difference-maker.

“I think he could be a really good signing.”

Celtic originally signed the forward on a loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain in the 2017 summer transfer window before signing him on a permanent deal in the following year for £9.27 million.

Overall, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £15.3 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 173 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side across all competitions in which he has managed to score 84 goals and provide 38 assists in the process.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments on a potential move away from Celtic for Edouard this summer…

Given how Edouard ended the 2020/21 season as Celtic’s top goalscorer in the SPFL with 18 goals and their highest-rated player to have started more than 10 league games according to WhoScored with an overall rating of 7.33/10, it’s easy to see why clubs such as Brighton, and previously Leicester City, as Jones mentioned in the video, have been linked with the player.

Do you think Celtic should cash in on Edouard this summer?

No

In our view, despite how important Edouard has been for the Hoops since his arrival in terms of scoring goals, given how it has recently been reported that the Frenchman would be willing to run down his contract and leave Celtic for nothing when his current deal expires next summer, perhaps it would be the best option for the club to sell him this summer and pick up as much money for him as possible and reinvest it into the squad, as Postecoglou has spoken about recently.
