Celtic fans have been reacting to claims about a potential move for VVV-Venlo forward Georgios Giakoumakis.

A report from journalist Duncan Castles claims that Celtic have “opened negotiations over the transfer of Greece international Georgios Giakoumakis, the Dutch Eredivisie’s leading goalscorer last season”, before going on to say that “a transfer fee in the region of £2.5million is expected to be sufficient”.

Celtic have already got plenty of firepower in their squad, with the club having already scored 16 goals so far in the month of August, but it never hurts being able to bring some more in, and Giakoumakis would certainly bring that. He hit 29 goals in 33 games in all competitions for the Dutch side last season, although it wasn’t enough to stop them from getting relegated.

The news of the talks was relayed to the supporters by @aboutceltic for fans to react to and there seemed to be a lot of positivity amongst them:

“Scored a hat-trick on his debut. Not often you’ll see that”

“Please”
“Do it @CelticFC
“That some mad stats for a relegated team… why’s no one else took him should be the question”
“Would be a great addition”
“THE GREEK GARY HOOPER”

If he’s able to recreate that form at Celtic Park, then they’d certainly be on to a winner in their attempts to wrestle the title back from Rangers.
