Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole believes that West Ham United may need to target a left-back this summer to replace Arthur Masuaku.

The Hammers have only made two permanent signings in this transfer window, bringing in Craig Dawson on a permanent basis from Watford, while they have also brought in goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on loan from PSG.

West Ham have been linked with a variety of defenders, with centre-backs seemingly the priority.

But they are also said to have an interest in signing Josh Doig from Hibernian, with the left-back linked with a variety of clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

Inkersole believes that a deal to bring a left-back into the club should become a major priority for the club, with Masuaku struggling with injuries and form in recent seasons.

The DR Congo international made just 12 appearances in the Premier League last season.

Inkersole, who has covered both West Ham and Chelsea during his time with the outlet, said: “Arthur Masuaku’s not featured yet in pre-season, he’s got some issues with his knee. I love Masuaku, I think he’s brilliant to watch, kamikaze completely but I love watching him.

“Maybe another left-back could be somewhere to strengthen.”
