West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing some details concerning a potential transfer move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard before the end of the current summer window.

This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he discussed a variety of subjects concerning the east London side.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Lingard and the possibility of West Ham making a move to sign him on a permanent basis this summer, Ex had this to say on the matter.

He said: “He has got to weigh it up, whether he’s going to play [at Manchester United] or not, and I think he’s becoming a bit more open to the idea of coming to West Ham and because of that, he is open to listening to what both clubs have to say.

“Now, West Ham haven’t had a bid accepted, so at this point, he is going to remain a Manchester United player, but I think, in the next coming days we will start to make a bid for Lingard and see what happens and test the water with that.”

Lingard, who is a product of Manchester United’s youth system, made his senior debut for the Red Devils in August 2014 during a 2-1 defeat against Swansea City under former manager Louis van Gaal.

Since then, the 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £19.8 million, has made 210 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side across all competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 20 assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments on Lingard and a potential move to West Ham this summer…

Given how Lingard racked up an impressive total of nine goals and five assists in the 16 appearances he made for the Hammers during his loan spell there last season, it’s understandable, in our view, that the club would be open to signing him again this summer, should the opportunity present itself.

You could easily argue that West Ham would not have qualified for Europe without his input, with their place in this year’s Europa League hanging in the balance until the final day of the campaign.

Do you think West Ham need to sign Lingard this summer?

No

In our view, if West Ham are open to offering the Red Devils a deal to sign Lingard, then the Englishman will have a big decision on his hands about where his future will lie, but we feel that if the midfielder would be guaranteed more playing time at West Ham, then perhaps this would be the best option for him and his career.

Although, with the transfer deadline coming at the end of the month, West Ham and Lingard will have to act quickly to sort out what they want to do.
