West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing some details surrounding the possibility of the east London club making a move to sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard this summer.

This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast where he spoke about a variety of subjects concerning the Hammers.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of a potential transfer move for Lingard, Ex had this to say on the matter.

He said: “As I’ve maintained, Lingard wanted to stay at Manchester United, he wanted to establish himself. He was on the bench at the weekend, only got a few minutes, but you could argue he’d just come back from [illness].

“Apparently, [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer is impressed with him, is happy to keep him around, but can’t guarantee that he’s going to be a first-team starter.

“And Lingard needs to make the decision as to whether he wants to leave Manchester United, and then come to West Ham.

“Now, he, at the moment, I would say he’s not guaranteed to start at West Ham either, but he needs to make that decision.

“The ball is kind of in his court, and also the problem is that at the moment, Manchester United are [for] asking too much money.

“You have to remember, he’s got a year left on his contract and they’re asking for about £25 million, but I think as the days go by, closer to the [deadline], because they’re also looking at maybe bringing in a midfielder themselves, they could be persuaded to go a bit lower, too.”

TIF Thoughts on a potential move for Lingard…

Taking into account how the Englishman managed to have a significant impact during his loan spell at the London Stadium last season after scoring nine goals and providing five assists in the 16 appearances he made for the club, it’s understandable, in our view, that West Ham would be interested in making a move to sign him again this summer.

Would Jesse Lingard get into West Ham's current starting XI?

However, the fact that West Ham have managed to score eight goals in their two opening Premier League games of the season says to us that they are not necessarily in desperate need to bring Lingard back to the club despite his impact last season.

Moving forward, we feel that if a move for Lingard does become an option for the club to potentially go for and if it’s financially viable, then they should definitely go for it, as he would provide Moyes with another talented attacking option in the squad, which could be vital to West Ham to have as many options as possible, given they will have Europa League games to contend with this year as well as their domestic ones.
