On the first episode of the Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has been providing the latest news regarding the Lilywhites.
One player who has been heavily linked with a potential summer switch to the north London side is Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
Discussing the Argentine defender’s future, Gold had the following to say on where Spurs stand on the potential deal.
“Cristian Romero, let’s have a little bit of positive news. There’s a growing confidence now that this is going to get done. It’s been a complicated deal.
“I think Atalanta also wanted to get replacements in, and that’s what I’m told, there’s kind of a loose agreement in principle that’s there and now it’s just about finalising that.
“Like you say, it’s roughly €50m, so you’re looking at £43m. I don’t know whether that’s going to be also add-ons on top of that as well, there could well be, and potential things that come into play and depending on how well he does.”
TIF Thoughts on Romero’s future…
It seems like Spurs are edging ever closer to completing the signing of the Argentine centre-back and this will come as welcome news to the Tottenham faithful.
Spurs were riddled by defensive errors last season and have been crying out for a dominant centre-back to take them into the 2021/22 campaign.
It is believed Davinson Sanchez is on Fabio Paratici’s shortlist of players to sell, which could suggest Eric Dier or Joe Rodon could play alongside Romero if he is to sign unless more arrivals are on the way.
