Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on the latest edition of the Gold & Guest talk Tottenham podcast to discuss all things transfer-related.

One of the biggest transfer rumours to emerge regarding the north London club in the last week has been Tottenham’s reported bid for Inter Lautaro Martinez.

Who would you rather see Spurs sign this summer?

However, it has since been claimed a deal for the Argentine would be difficult to complete now Inter are expected to lose Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea in the coming days.

The duo’s form in front of goal led Inter to the Serie A crown last season with providing 17 goals and 10 assists in the Italian top-flight (via Transfermarkt).

Amid claims suggesting a deal could be difficult to get over the line, Gold provided his understanding on why Inter may have prioritised Chelsea’s deal for Lukaku.

“From what I understand, Tottenham believed they were getting towards an agreement in principle, really, for a fee over Lautaro Martinez, and then the Lukaku situation happened.

“I think in purely football terms, you’d probably want to keep Lukaku more. But I can understand if you’re a club that is in very dire financial straits, getting £100m in rather than [a deal with add-ons].

“That’s the thing with add-ons, Tottenham are very good at loading up their transfer deals either in a way where the structure means they don’t have to pay too much to begin with, or the add-ons will give the other team much more money going forward. So I guess for a team like Inter, they probably need more of the money right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Lautaro to Spurs…

We find it difficult to see Inter allowing to leave this summer, with Lukaku reportedly close to completing his move to the Blues this summer.

However, if Inter do find themselves still struggling financially this summer despite the expected sale of Lukaku, then maybe a deal for could become more realistic.

Reports have suggested Tottenham intend on signing to play alongside Harry Kane, however, we wonder whether this is a potential plan for the captain’s potential departure.
