Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss all things relating to the north London side.

Spurs have recently completed the signing of Serie A defender of the year, Cristian Romero, from Atalanta over the course of the weekend following weeks of speculation.

Will Spurs sign another centre-back this summer?

No

This comes amid the summer market where Spurs are believed to be looking to overhaul their squad, with two new centre-backs reportedly on Daniel Levy’s wish list for some time.

The Lilywhites have been linked with a number of centre-backs this summer, with the likes of Nikola Milenkovic, Maxence Lacroix and Jules Kounde all on Fabio Paratici’s list.

However, discussing where director of football Fabio Paratici goes now after securing the services of the Argentine defender, Gold had the following to say.

“I understand the priority, [the] next two positions, are another centre-back and a right-back. And then after that, they’re going to start looking further up the pitch at other positions.

“So that means another centre-back. My understanding – and I’ve said this for a while now – was that they always wanted to bring in a kind of another leader type.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ summer spending…

So far, we have been impressed with the additions Spurs have added to their squad, with Bryan Gil, Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero all looking like potential long-term options for the north London side given their scope for longevity in the side.

However, there are still areas that need to be addressed. It is believed Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier are both on the market to be sold this summer.

And if that is the case, then it shows Spurs clearly want to bring in a new starting centre-back this summer, but with the Premier League season kicking off this week, it looks unlikely that will be finalised before the Manchester City clash.

Spurs have lost both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld now, and it looks like the club may be trying to find their next long-term centre-back pairing this summer.
