Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss all things transfer-related.
One name which has been linked with a potential summer switch is the 19-year-old left-back, Dennis Cirkin, who is reportedly set for a move to League One side Sunderland.
Will Cirkin prove to be one that got away?
It is believed the youngster has been given permission to undergo a medical with the Wearside club ahead of a potential six-figure transfer deal.
The 19-year-old did start for the U23s on Saturday, however, it could be his last game for the north London side ahead of a potential move to the north-east.
Discussing the left-back’s future with Spurs, Gold had the following to say on the specific reasons to how this possible summer switch came about.
“Young Dennis Cirkin looks like he’s going to move on permanently, which is a sad one. It looks like Sunderland may be going to get him.
“A lot of people are understandably going ‘what, why is he going?’ But it sounds like, from what I’m told, that he didn’t want to take up the offer of the new deal that was on the table from Tottenham or was being offered by Tottenham, looking to make it elsewhere as a first-team player.
“I can understand that, his pathway is somewhat blocked you know, you’ve got [Sergio] Reguilon, [Ryan] Sessegnon, [Ben] Davies, [Japhet] Tanganga can play there.”
TIF Thoughts on Cirkin’s potential move…
We think this is a massive shame for Spurs to lose one of their bright sparks from the youth development system.
Opportunities should be available under Lee Johnson with the Black Cats currently playing without a natural left-back in their squad.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs have covered themselves with a buy-back clause or a sell-on percentage if the deal is to go through just in case he makes a real name for himself on Wearside.
