Tottenham have already moved on Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth, whilst Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, the two players that were responsible for the majority of Spurs’ defensive lapses last season, could soon join them.
Santo has already added Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta and Bryan Gil from Sevilla, and director or football Fabio Paratici is now trying to add the goalkeeper’s former teammate Romero to his squad.
However, according to reports, Tottenham are still some way off Atalanta’s asking-price of £50m, which would top the £42m Spurs paid for Sanchez from Ajax in 2017.
Despite being apart in their valuation, Bridge told This is Futbol that Romero, who played five times for Argentina at the Copa America, is the one the north London outfit desperately want.
“It sounds to me that Romero, universally everyone knows that Romero is the key and the number one player Tottenham want.
“It would be him and someone else as well in an ideal world.”
