Graham Roberts believes that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should be seen as a potential new Tottenham Hotspur captain if Harry Kane leaves the club.

Kane has been heavily linked with a potential exit from the north London side, having reportedly aired his desire to leave amid interest from Manchester City.

City are reported to have made a bid worth £100m for him before the start of the European Championships, in which England reached the final.

He is the current vice-captain behind Hugo Lloris and Roberts is of the opinion that the France international will keep the armband this season.

But Roberts has identified Hojbjerg as a potential skipper in the future if Kane does depart, with Lloris set to turn 35 in December.

Hojbjerg was Southampton captain prior to his move to Spurs, while he also emerged as a leader for Denmark at the European Championships, as they reached the semi-finals, where they were beaten by Kane’s England.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Roberts said: “Well it depends if Harry Kane leaves, then yes. If Harry Kane stays, no. I think Hugo will be the captain, there’s no doubt about that this season.”
